165 firework injuries reported--DOH

MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Health has reported at least 165 cases of firecracker-related injuries as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, including two cases of watusi ingestion.

In its update, the DoH said most of those injured were from Metro Manila and were caused by prohibited firecrackers 5-star and Super Lolo, among others.

There was also a case of a 32-year-old mentally ill male who ingested three boxes of toxic watusi (dancing pyrotechnics).

Injuries from stray bullets were reported in the Tondo Medical Hospital
and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC)

But the DoH said the figures continue to decline, with Tuesday's record 18 percent lower than the past four years.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque has also started making hospital rounds in the metropolis to inspect if hospitals follow the department's "Code White" alert, which means adequate hospital personnel and machines, and medical supplies.

Duque already visited Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Sta. Cruz and Tondo hospital. He was set to visit five other hospitals.
